Letters re Methodist parsonage at Travelers Rest and disagreement between Jackson Grove Church belief that it held an interest in the building, a claim disputed by the Travelers Rest Church, "Claude Goodlet's mother gave the lot for the parsonage to the North Greenville Circuit in 1897.... very few records were kept which date that far back...." (Roy Anderson to Betts, 22 Nov. 1955); Betts and his wife had lived in this parsonage early in his career while serving the congregation of Travelers Rest; in his reply, 23 Nov. 1955, Betts included a list of ministers who served the Travelers Rest Charge, 1898-1932; other items reflect his activities with the S.C. Methodist Conference; [two photographs transfered to Visual Materials: image of a camp meeting of white Methodists at an unidentified open shelter surrounded by trees, and a large group photograph of well-dressed African American men and women on the steps of a stone church, 1955, during meeting of the black Methodist Conference]. Church programs, some of which include images of buildings, include: bulletin, 2 Aug. 1936, from Saint George Methodist Episcopal Church, South; bulletin of First Methodist Church of Laurens (15 May 1955); and program from a revival, 24 May 1953, at Central Methodist Church (Florence, S.C.): "Mass meeting Florence-Kingstree District." Scrapbook, 1934-1955 and 1976, consisting of newspaper clippings re Betts, the churches where he served, the Methodist Conference and related matters, including the death of his wife, Evelyn de Medici Betts, 1976, when her car was hit by a train. Mrs. Betts had served as "president of the S.C. Women's Christian Temperance Union for more than 25 years" when her car stalled on train tracks near Irmo, S.C. (legal size; photocopy). Six volumes, 1925-1955, consisting of sermon notes and outlines on such topics as "Making Money," "God's Plan for Women," etc.
